This year's Mr. Gay World USA 2012 will start filming this Sunday, January 29th, in NYC. The 20 selected contestants will be meeting up at the NYC-JC suites in Jersey City. This years competition will be filmed as a Reality TV, and will be hosted by Jonathan D. Lovitz - star of LOGO TV's "Set-Up Squad" and "1 Girl 5 Gays." Executive Producers Jarl Haugedal and Michael Billy will serve as Judges as well.

Each day, the finalists will be put to the test to show they have what it takes to represent the US, participating in a variety of challenges--from runway competitions, to cooking contests and political debates--as Haugedal, Billy and other special guests serve as judges. The judges will be looking for the man who shows an interest in the world and people around him; displays patience; has a compassionate and considerate nature; embraces change, or things and people different from his own frame of reference, experience, or cultural background; can articulate his thoughts and conduct an intelligent conversation; has a basic innate charm and sparkle; and has poise and is secure with himself. Ultimately, one man will be announced the winner of Mr. Gay World USA and sent to South Africa in April 4-8, 2012 to represent the USA in Mr. Gay World.

The website announced that there will be 20 guys competing for the US Title, but, from what I have gathered from a few articles circulating throughout the gay media, there will be more than 20 guys competing. A few "wild card" contestant were hand-picked by the producers to stir things up and add a little twist to the contest.

Let's see who gets to represent the US this year in South Africa, and if he can surpass Michael Holtz' 1st Runner-up finish last year in the Philippines.
