MISS WORLD AND MISS INTERNATIONAL 2011

For the first time in history two Grand Slam pageants happened on the same day: Miss World and Miss International. Therefore, some interesting changes took place in the Grand Slam Ranking after points from winners, runner-ups, finalists, semi-finalists, quarter-finalists, and special awards winners from these two events were added.

Ecuador, which won its first Grand Slam title in China (Miss International 2011), jumped 10 very important positions up, being now at the 55th place. Zimbabwe, which placed in Miss World's semi-finals17 years after its previous achievement, and after inheriting the points from Rodhesia in the 1950's and 60's, has moved 8 notches up, and is now 66th.

US Virgin Islands (+5, 96th), Hungary (+4, 98th), and Indonesia (+4, 99th), all entered the 'top 100', kicking out of it Bahamas, Albania and Northern Ireland.

Kazakhstan, +6, is now in 80th place; Guatemala placed among Miss World quarter-finalists for the first time ever, and is now in the 73rd position (+3). Mongolia, with an impressive 3rd position in Miss International, is now 104th, up 5.

In the 'top 50', the major changes were Spain reaching the top 15 (15th, +1), overcoming France (now 16th), and Panama returning to the 'top 40', in the 40th place, leaving China, now 41st, behind.


The Caribbean island of St. Barthelemy (photo), a quarter-finalist in Miss World, had an impressive Grand Slam debut, coming into the ranking in 124th place, leaving exact 100 countries and regions behind!

Venezuela won its 6th Miss World crown and is now in its way to becoming the 'Country of the Year' for the 5th consecutive time. Can anyone stop it? This question will be answered in December, when Miss Tourism Queen and Miss Earth take place.
