Bolivia to submit formal bid to host Miss Universe 2010, following Morales’ petition

La Paz, Nov. 10 (EFE) - Bolivia will present a bid to host the Miss Universe 2010 pageant, following a suggestion made by President Evo Morales to hold the event in the city of Santa Cruz as a tribute to ‘beautiful women’, according to local newspaper La Razon.
The company in charge of organizing the Miss Bolivia and Reina Hispanoamericana contests, “Promociones Gloria”, submitted to the Miss Universe Organization a petition of the requirements to host the international beauty contest.
The owner of this company, Gloria Limpias, explained that among the requirements, there should be enough hotels to host around 3500 people.
Limpias said that “Promociones Gloria” will work on the presentation of th formal bidding in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture, which is willing to make Bolivia the chosen host city by the Miss Universe Organization.
“The Government asked us to find out about all the specific requirements so we can work on what is needed, and then to start working on this matter” sad Limpias, who added that Santa Cruz has hosted major beauty events, like the Reina Hispanoamericana pageant.
Limpias mntioned that Bolivia would benefit by hosting this event, due to an increase in the economy, as well as the touristic promotion taking place during the television transmission of the contest, which has a worldwide audience of millions.
She also recognized that there is a list of countries that could be in the running to bid the 2010 contest. If not elected, Bolivia would have to wait until 2011 to reach this goal.
